Privacy Policy — FAQs by 80s dev

FAQs by 80s dev (“the app”) is a Shopify app operated by 80s.dev. This policy explains what data we collect, where it lives, and how we use it.

What we collect

To run the app for your store, we store:

Your store's myshopify.com domain
The Shopify access token required to call the Shopify Admin API on your behalf
Settings you enter in the app (for example support email, contact link, and search options)

We also collect anonymous storefront events tied to your store, not to individual shoppers:

FAQ views
Search text with result counts
Helpful and not-helpful votes on FAQ answers

We do not collect shopper names, emails, mailing addresses, orders, or IP addresses. The app does not request Shopify customer-data scopes. Emails and long numbers typed into search are masked before storage.

Where FAQ content lives

Your FAQ questions and answers are stored in your own Shopify store as metaobjects. We read and write them through the Shopify Admin API. We do not keep a separate copy of your published FAQ content on our servers.

Policies and pages import

If you import from store policies or pages, we read that content only to create draft FAQs in your store. We do not store imported policy or page text on our servers.

AI assistant connector (MCP)

Connecting an AI assistant is optional. You connect your own assistant via OAuth and approve the requested access in Shopify admin.

With your permission, a connected assistant can:

Read FAQs and categories (faqs:read)
Read search analytics, including searches that found no answer (analytics:read)
Create new FAQs as unpublished drafts and propose edits (faqs:write)

It cannot publish or delete FAQs, and it cannot access orders, customers, or products. Drafts stay unpublished until you approve them in the app.

We store:

Hashed access and refresh tokens for the connection
The connected client's name and redirect address
An audit log of each write and each denied request (tool name, time, outcome) so you can review activity

Whatever your assistant does with data it reads is governed by that AI provider's own terms. We do not send your store data to any AI provider ourselves. You can disconnect an assistant anytime in the app, which revokes its tokens.

How we use data

We use data only to provide and operate the app. We do not sell your data or use it for advertising. Processing is handled by our hosting provider, Cloudflare, on our behalf.

Retention and deletion

From Settings you can delete analytics older than your retention setting or delete all analytics. When you uninstall the app, active sessions are deleted immediately and MCP tokens are revoked. Remaining store data (analytics, settings, connector tokens, and audit log) is deleted when Shopify sends a shop/redact request, typically about 48 hours after uninstall.

We acknowledge Shopify customer data and redaction webhooks. We do not hold customer personal data from your storefront.

This website

The 80s.dev website, including this page, uses PostHog for basic visit stats. The FAQs by 80s dev storefront experience does not use third-party analytics.

Children

The app is a merchant tool and is not directed at children under 13.

Changes

If this policy changes, we'll update this page and the “Last updated” date.
